Today Mya had a pre-whelping x-ray to get an idea of how many puppies to anticipate. The results show that there are at least 7 if not one or two more.
As a breeder, and a licensed Veterinary Technician, I want to utilize all of the diagnostic tools that are available to us that give us useful information.
It is important to have an idea of how many puppies to expect so that if there is a long delay after 5 puppies, and there were 7 at least on the x-ray... based on other variables of the situation, you know that you may have to head to the veterinarian hospital soon. This information can help us save a bitch or a puppy, just by knowing there are more in there that need to come out!
So, yes another expense at the vet that some may say they do not care to bother with. For me, I still want access to the crystal ball as much as possible. We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the baby puppies.
